What Inspected Means

Inspected units, ready to roll.

Buying a used food truck or trailer is a big check to write. Here's what our team checks on every listing, and the inspection you can ask for before you buy.

Two Levels of Checking

Every listing: a documentation check

Every listing gets a documentation check from our team. We verify the title and VIN and confirm it's a legitimate sale, and we review the unit from the seller's photos and videos. That review is internal and not shared as a report.

On request: a physical inspection

A physical inspection happens only when a buyer asks for one. It's available in the Houston area only and costs $350, paid by the buyer who requests it. The buyer gets that inspection report.

What the $350 Inspection Covers

When a buyer requests the physical inspection, the inspector walks the unit system by system:

Trailer/Chassis and Running Gear

Frame, axles, tires, brakes, lights, hitch/coupler, and jacks. This is what gets the unit to your location safely.

Structure and Exterior

Roof (including signs of leaks), walls, floor, serving window, and doors.

Electrical

Main panel, visible wiring, outlets, and power source - generator and/or shore power hookup.

Plumbing and Water

Fresh and grey water tanks, water pump, water heater, 3-compartment sink, and hand sink.

Propane and Gas

Gas lines, regulator, a leak test, and the connections to each gas appliance.

Cooking and Refrigeration Equipment

We confirm each piece of equipment powers on and functions - grills, fryers, ranges, ovens, coolers, freezers.

Ventilation and Fire Suppression

Hood and exhaust fan, and the fire suppression system - including the date on the service tag, if a tag is present.

Paperwork

Title present and VIN on the title matches the VIN on the unit; registration status.

How the Rating Works

Every item on the inspection report gets one of three marks:

Pass
Present, working, and no obvious issues found at the time of inspection.
Needs Attention
Present, but something isn't right: wear, damage, a leak, or it doesn't function as it should. The inspector notes what was found.
Not Present / N/A
The unit doesn't have this item, or it doesn't apply (for example, odometer on a trailer).

"Needs Attention" doesn't mean a unit is a bad buy - plenty of good units need a tire or a new seal. It means you know about it up front and can factor it into your offer.

What an Inspection Is NOT

We want to be straight with you about this:

  • It is not a health department approval.Every city and county has its own mobile food unit rules. Passing our inspection does not mean a unit will pass your local health inspection.
  • It is not a fire marshal approval or permit.Fire suppression and propane requirements vary by jurisdiction.
  • It is not a warranty or guarantee. The report reflects what was observed on the inspection date. Things can change, and some issues can't be seen without taking equipment apart.
  • It is not a title or legal review. We note whether the paperwork appears to match the unit; it is not a legal opinion on ownership.

Before you buy, check with your local health department and fire marshal about what they require in your city, and look the unit over yourself or with someone you trust.
